Dear Moon Babies,

This evening is the new moon in Leo. It is also the day that Mercury goes direct again, as it has been retrograde since July 7th. So you may feel things turning around today and tomorrow and moving towards more clarity. If you have felt like the way forward was unclear, or kept changing, or you weren't quite ready to make up your mind yet these last few weeks, now is the time to redirect.

On this new moon I am thinking about how much courage it takes for us to swim in the waters of uncertainty. Life is not a cut and dry, yes or no scenario. It is filled with complexity, unknowns, upsets, challenges, triumphs, passion, and learning. Or so it could be. Because the flexibility it takes to live a life like this requires us to be willing to take great risks, to not know what comes next, and choose to do it anyway. And that can be a very scary thing.

The sign that opposes Leo is Aquarius, and Aquarius is the place where we hold to a structure and aim to live by the goals we've set out for ourselves. Leo, however, is not that place. It is literally the opposite of that, the sign that opposes that. Is it the place where we make a mess and override the rules and play hooky from school, and wind up feeling rewarded by the incredible adventure that ensues.

So this takes courage. We might feel tempted, all the time, to follow the structure, because it means we might know what's coming. It means we might be able to provide a better life for ourselves and the ones we love. It means we are working towards a safer, better world for everyone. But the courage of Leo season is about exploring what we still don't, and can never know. It's about risking everything we think we understand about the world to actually learn something about ourselves. Something new that we cannot explain, that lives in our hearts.

This new moon is a beautiful time to take a risk. Life becomes stifling when we live inside the confines of a structure we've laid out a long time ago, even if that structure was meant to offer us a better life. There are things we know intellectually, and things that are beyond knowing that simply have to be experienced, and Leo invites us to that place.

A famous Rumi poem comes to mind:

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,

there is a field. I'll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,

the world is too full to talk about." (Rumi)

May you all find a way to that place this Leo season, as Mercury moves direct and the new moon occurs.

With love,
